I have always wondered why is February such a short month, why there are only 28 days in it?

Because I find February so intriguing, I also wondered why it was named February. After some research and googling, I learned that the etymological root of the word comes from the Latin ‘februltus’ which means “remedy of errors”. Since ancient times, February has been a month dedicated to inner and outer purification. In Catholic tradition, February is the Month of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Incidentally, there are some famous religious festivals and traditional holidays being celebrated in February. Each celebrations use fire and lights in honour of the the gentle awakening of Nature at this time of year
Having said that, it is absolutely good to consider February as the month of purification, where fires and flames are instrumental in increasing the light on earth and purifying our homes and hearts. Thus, we are prepared for the rebirth that Spring and Easter offer.
