My sister and I visited Detroit MI for a weekend getaway and part of our plan for Saturday night was watch a show at the famous Fox Theater.
The Sound of Music was on and we learned that it was the show’s farewell show for the season. We were lucky to get tickets for the final show at 8pm.
As everyone knows, the Sound of Music is a heartwarming story of Maria , the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children, and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
We arrived at the theater early. It was a good thing because we were able to take lots of photos and see all the art and style this place has to offer.
It's such a cool restored art deco theatre. The ushers and elevator attendants were dressed in black suits. It is just beautiful inside and they have 2 huge screens for people having trouble seeing the stage.
Neither the show or the theater disappointed. The refurbishment of this opulent theater is pleasing and it is genuinely a feast for the eyes even before the show starts. It transports one back to the great, glorious theaters of the early 20th Century. Sight lines and sound were both great as well from just about any seat in the place.
If you will have an opportunity to take in a show at the Fox… DO IT! You won't be disappointed! This theatre is just stunning. The sound was great and there’s not a bad seat in the house. It was more than what I expected.
